I think "early impressions" is going to go on for a couple of weeks, so I'll keep on updating this entry.
The good
- The installer is very slick
- Very fresh software; only distro so far that finds and serves up the built-in bluetooth in my Asus W6A
- I actually like the new start menu in KDE; very very usable
- 1-click install Just Works(tm)
- First time I've seen yzis duck its head up in a release-grade distro! Yay!
- Nothing I need which isn't available in main or community repos. Well, except for live-f1 which is a niche thing anyhow, and hardly work-centric.
The bad
- The installer can't configure a wireless connection with encryption
- The "9" and "0" volume control keys in mplayer adjust the wrong mixer control and have no effect
- Coming from Debian, openSUSE package management is still painfully slow by comparison
- yzis is included but does not work immediately as a kpart; to investigate, since embedded vim is a killer application for me
- I had segfaults from running zypper; need to reproduce and file a bug.
